What you need before you start
- Manager approval for the device assignment.
- The device, unboxed, powered on, and showing the Windows setup or sign-in screen.
- The user's Entra ID account details.
Enrolling the device
- If the device is pre-configured for Windows Autopilot: power it on and connect to the internet. It will automatically download the Intune configuration. The user signs in with their Entra ID credentials and setup completes automatically.
- If not Autopilot-configured, enrol manually: sign in to Windows using a local admin account or the user's Entra ID credentials.
- Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. Click Connect. Select Join this device to Azure Active Directory.
- Enter the user's Entra ID email and follow the sign-in prompts. The device will join Entra ID and Intune will begin applying policies and deploying apps.
- On another device, open intune.microsoft.com. Go to Devices > All devices. Confirm the new device has appeared and shows as Compliant (may take up to 30 minutes on first enrolment).
- On the device page in Intune, click Sync to accelerate policy and app deployment.
- On the device itself, wait for Intune-deployed apps to finish installing. Verify Microsoft 365 apps (Teams, Outlook, Edge) are installed and the user can sign in.
- Have the user test: Teams, Outlook, ADO access, and passkey sign-in on the device.
- Update the asset register: device name, serial number, assigned user, assignment date.
- Update and close the ticket.
